The following is a short list of safe products you can use to replace your toxic household chemicals with. It’s not encyclopedic but it is definitely a start. The next time you need to purchase any kind of cleaning product consider going to a local health food store to see what cleaning products they keep on hand.
Scrutinize all labels on any cleaning product!
Companies that are reputable will provide a list on the packaging that contains all the ingredients. Some companies will even list on their product how long it takes to break down in the environment.
There are two brands of soaps, detergents, and cleaners that are well-known and are safe to use to replace your toxic household chemicals. They are Seventh Generation and Ecover. These two companies’ products should be available at most health food stores and regular grocery stores. You may also try to find brands like Bio-Kleen, Orange-Glo, and Citra-Solv.
Old fashioned cleaners also make for alternatives that are safer. A soap that is biodegradable and phosphate free is Murphy’s Vegetable Oil Soap.
Also, a mild, chlorine-free abrasive made with feldspar (which is a naturally occurring mineral) is Bon Ami.
Be careful with products labeled natural or organic because they can still be harmful if swallowed or splashed on the skin or eyes.
When using any home cleaning product always observe the usual precautions and use just enough to get the job done.
