Take our tour…

The Kitchen Tour

What products contain toxic chemicals in your kitchen?  They are:  cleaner for your oven, powder for scouring, dishwashing liquid and detergent, glass cleaner, floor polish or floor wax, cleaner for drains, any types of disinfectants, detergent used in your dishwasher, polishes for metals, bleach, cleaners that are ammonia-based, cleaners that are all-purpose.

The Usual Suspects:

Sodium Hypochlorite:  Used in chlorine bleach.  Exposure to this chemical can cause asthmatic symptoms or even more serious respiratory problems. Also if this chemical gets mixed with ammonia it can release choramine gas which is very toxic.

Formaldehyde:  Used in many products as a preservative.  This product is a strong irritant to your lungs, skin, eyes, and throat.  It is a suspected human carcinogen.

Nitrobenzene:  Used in floor and furniture polishes.  This chemical can cause extreme illnesses, cancer, and birth defects.  It can also cause vomiting, shallow breathing, discoloration of the skin, and death.

Cresol and Phenol:  Used in disinfectants.  This can cause diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, and liver and kidney damage.

Petroleum Distillates:  Used in polishes for metal.  Exposure to this product in the short-term can cause eye clouding.  Long-term exposure can cause eye, skin, kidney, and nervous system damage.

Ammonia
